We sometimes keep old homes, we sometimes buy old homes, sometimes, we inherent them. But whichever the case, we sure love them! Why? Because there’s a beauty and charm that you cannot buy today. Sadly, modernisation (or poor work practices) in older homes can often result in the permanent loss of historic fabric – that beauty and that charm. Our work seeks to be period correct, aesthetically pleasing, practical, and long lasting, just like the original. But it doesn’t mean it can’t be up to date too. The philosophy is simple, leave little to no “footprints”. In other words, it would be good to think that the work done, while meeting all of the required customer criteria, is not easily noticeable.
Our SASH WINDOW DRAUGHT PROOFING and RESTORATION SERVICE, seeks to minimise encroachment upon the original framework. In fact, over 92% of our custom draughtproofing installation is fitted to the replaceable beads in-between and around the sashes, not into the window itself.
Casement sashes use rubber seals as opposed to the brush seals used in sliding sashes and so too, doors are draughtproofed with the same long lasting rubber compression seals. When doors have removable stops fitted, we can remake new stops to custom match your originals and machine them to take the new seals. When they are fitted and painted, and in particular when the door is closed, it is almost impossible to notice the door has been retro fitted at all.
An estimate can be given for cleaning, recording, or painting alone. Or, any combination of work the customer may envisage with options available like natural varnish, fitting new brass pulleys, wood rot repair, and even custom hand-made beading, matching architraves, or skirtings to replace damaged or missing period parts. For our more distant customers, our service is statewide. This can sometimes makes onsite pre-assessments challenging. Photos can be most useful in these cases as can live discussions and detailed emails. Various travel and logistical challenges can be overcome however, and we are always keen to listen, discuss, and find solutions for our customers/potential customers wherever they may have houses in Tasmania.
Additionally, we repair floorboards, build period correct custom shelving, attend to deck and porch repairs, take care of door restorations and retro fitting of hardware, blind and curtain installation, heritage and mural based painting, building of custom vanities, design, consult, and repair your treasured old furniture. Please call or email anytime with your questions or to set up an appointment. (Note that an appointment is necessary to visit me at Woodland, I am often elsewhere and possibly on location at other sites). Thank you, Johnny
